George MacDonald (1824-1905), a Scottish poet, novelist, and preacher, was the grandfather of modern fantasy fiction and one of the towering figures of the Victorian era. He was a mentor to Lewis Carroll, friend to Mark Twain, and the single greatest influence on C.S.
